Jewellery Care Symbols: What the Icons Do—and Do Not—Tell You

A little water drop on a product card looks clear until you wonder what it means. Is the piece splash resistant? Safe in a shower? Should it never get wet? The picture alone may not answer that.
Turn the picture into a specific question
These examples explain how to ask for clarity. They are not an official symbol chart or a standard used by every jewellery brand.
“Use a cloth” needs more detail
A plain soft cloth and a treated polishing cloth are different tools. A polishing cloth intended for one metal may not suit a thin coating or a delicate finish. Check the product instructions before choosing one.
For a plated piece, do not start rubbing harder because a mark remains. Read our silver-plated cleaning guide and check whether the mark might be lost plating rather than dirt.
“Waterproof” still leaves questions
Ask which design the claim applies to, what exposure is covered and whether the stones, adhesive and closure have the same care requirements. Do not assume a claim about the base metal describes every part of the finished piece.
For Aagrah, treat only a product explicitly marked waterproof on its own page that way, and read its care details. A broad collection description should not replace the individual listing.
Keep the care card with the order details
Take a photo of the written instructions and save it with the product name and order number. That makes it easier to check later, especially if you own similar-looking pieces made from different materials.
If the label and listing disagree, ask the seller to clarify before cleaning or exposing the piece to water. Send the exact product link rather than asking about jewellery in general.
A useful message to send
“Your card shows a cloth and a crossed-out drop. For this exact item, should I use a dry cloth only? What should I do after an accidental splash? Are treated polishing cloths or cleaning liquids allowed?”
Clear answers are more helpful than a row of attractive icons. Use the pendant care guide for a gentle starting routine, then follow any more specific instructions for your piece.
